Kayaks and Whales At Rosarito Beach

If exploring the beauties of Mexico is on your bucket list, make sure to add whale watching at Rosarito Beach to your itinerary. This beach is not as well known as the popular beaches of Cancun and Tijuana, but it has just as much if not more to offer visitors. Cancun and Tijuana are great for partying in the sun and having a great time with other vacationers, but Rosarito Beach is where you go for a more secluded, low key vacation. Here you can sit back in the sand watch the beautiful horizon, but you can also get out and spot a grey whale, since whale watching is hot at this destination. Located just off the border of Baja, California, this is one of the best beaches in Mexico for whale watching and kayaking.

The area south of the pacific coast of Baja, California is well known as a hot spot for grey whales, so if you enjoy a kayaking adventure on this beach you are guaranteed to get at least a small glimpse of these whales in their natural habitat. It is best to plan a New Years trip, since the whales travel from the Arctic Ocean to the Rosarito Beach area in December and January. During these months they will be mating and giving birth to their young before departing for the Arctic Ocean once again. If you kayak the waters of this beach during these months you will be delighted with up-close encounters of these beautiful creatures under the water. You can look at them with your binoculars, take stunning pictures, or just sit back in your kayak and enjoy the view.

Winter is the time of year when whales make the journey from their home in the Arctic Ocean to take in the warmth of Rosarito Beach, and begin their mating and birthing season. Traveling by kayak along the waters of Rosarito Beach provides you the ultimate opportunity to take pictures, view the whales through binoculars, and simply take in the wonders of watching these amazing creatures you otherwise would never have the chance to see.

If you are a birdwatcher, this beach is a must-see destination as well. You will encounter beautiful tropical birds as well as sea lions, manatee, and a variety of other animals that love this secluded area of Mexico. For photographers who love nature, Rosarito Beach is a paradise you will never want to leave! Go for a kayaking adventure during the warm months of the year and you will encounter many animals that you have never seen before.

Most people go on daytime kayaking tours while they are in the Rosarito Beach area, but there are also overnight tours which allow you to camp outside the small islands surrounding the beach. You will camp out in the sand right along with the birds and other animals occupying these beaches.

Imagine waking up to a tropical sunset and heading back out for another day of kayaking, sand, and exotic animals. You don’t have to be an expert kayaker to enjoy these adventures at Rosarito Beach, but some physical conditioning would be a good thing. The water can become a bit rough when it is inhabited by moving whales as well as your kayak!
